Just a few minutes outside Siem Reap's bustling centre, Jaya House has a peaceful location overlooking the river. Inside, the design is chic and monochromatic and the atmosphere is relaxing and sanctuary-like; there are always beautiful vases of fresh flowers too. The hotel offers a number of different tours and activities, from the greats of the Angkor Archaeological Park to boat trips on the Tonle Sap Lake. On your return, you'll be greeted with a cold, jasmine-scented towel and iced herbal tea, followed by a complimentary massage if you fancy it.
In a classic setting that brings nature inside, the restaurant offers all-day dining with a menu of western, Khmer and seasonal local dishes. Breakfast is a buffet of fresh fruit, pastries, breads and cakes, alongside a la carte hot dishes. Drinks can be enjoyed at the terrace bar, which overlooks the pretty gardens. Sustainability and a commitment to the surrounding community are hugely important at Jaya House; the hotel is free of single-use plastics and you'll find bold artwork from the nearby Small Art School on the walls.
There are 36 spacious rooms, all with dark wooden furnishings and inviting pillow-top mattresses. Adorned with bold portraits, the monochromatic theme continues throughout the living areas (the suites enjoy a separate space to recline in) and the bathrooms, which are supplied with bespoke Jaya Organics toiletries. Each room has a balcony or direct pool access, and certain suites boast their own plunge pool. Other amenities include wifi, aircon, an espresso machine, a home-grown tea selection, and a complimentary minibar.
The staggering temples of Angkor will likely be at the top of your list. Just a few minutes away, you can easily arrive in time to catch the sunrise before admiring many of its iconic structures like Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm. You can also take an ox cart ride through the surrounding countryside and join Jaya House's chef at the market to pick out ingredients for a fantastic cooking class. There is also the chance to visit nearby floating villages and enjoy a local lunch.
For every room booked, a certain amount is donated to the Green Gecko Centre for Street Children, the Cambodian Landmine Relief Fund, and Small Art School. Ask the staff all about them and even pay a visit.
Children are welcome and the hotel offers connecting rooms for families, two pools to enjoy, and even a milk and cookies bar.
Certain tours are only available if you stay for two days or more, so it's best to confirm this when you book.
The Time + Tide Foundation is dedicated to preserving natural environments and supporting nearby communities, and guests contribute to sustainability purely by visiting their hotels. The foundation focuses on community and school-based learning, female empowerment, health, and wildlife conservation. Through initiatives like student sponsorship, it aims to ensure the long-term prosperity of wildlife economies and foster positive social change in Time + Tide communities.
A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
