About Vundu Camp

World-class guiding and adventure in the heart of Mana Pools.

Vundu has made a name for itself over the years, largely thanks to its high standard of guiding. The camp occupies a prime position on the banks of the Zambezi River in Mana Pools National Park. It's operated by the owners who still do a large amount of the guiding. The activities here are diverse and the guides pride themselves on giving guests quality experiences in the bush whether you're on foot, in a vehicle or in a canoe.

Property details

The main area at Vunda is a large double storey wooden structure that encompasses the bar, lounge and dining room upstairs, overlooking a wide section of the Zambezi. There are many comfortable chairs and couches, a small selection of books and a little tea and coffee table. Right on the bank of the river, under an impressive jackalberry tree, is the camp's communal fire pit, which, being open onto the bush, regularly receives visitors of the trunked four-legged kind. Behind the main area is a small pan that attracts wildlife throughout the day, with a thatched hide where you can sit and watch the action.

There are eight simple yet spacious chalets at Vundu, one of which is a honeymoon suite and another a family suite. The rooms have concrete floors and high thatch roofs. They lack some of the bells and whistles of fancier lodges but are nonetheless comfortable and clean. Each chalet has an outdoor ensuite bathroom with a shower, a double washbasin and a toilet and plenty of privacy. There is a private seating area inside and outside each chalet, both with superb views of the river.

Your guide is the link between you and the bush and thus an important part of any safari - at Vundu you're likely to get some of the best. They won't hesitate to go the extra mile and get you out of the vehicle whenever there's an opportunity to follow tracks or approach an interesting animal on foot . One of the best things to do here is a canoe trip on the Zambezi, and though it's not for the faint-hearted, it is highly rewarding. You can opt for a half-day trip but two or three-night sleep-out trails are also available. With a high concentration of big game in this area, game drives are usually very rewarding; for those sticking to walking and canoeing the game viewing will be more than satisfactory.

The impact of your stay

The Time + Tide Foundation is dedicated to preserving natural environments and supporting nearby communities, and guests contribute to sustainability purely by visiting their hotels. The foundation focuses on community and school-based learning, female empowerment, health, and wildlife conservation. Through initiatives like student sponsorship, it aims to ensure the long-term prosperity of wildlife economies and foster positive social change in Time + Tide communities.

A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
