Built in the late 1800s by Emperor Menelik II, who founded Addis Ababa, the palace was the residence of Ethiopia’s rulers for more than a century. Unity park’s traditional garden beautifully displays over 43 indigenous plants. At the spacious green area, there is a botanical garden of various plants. At the lion zoo, primates and endemic including black-mane lions roam and another 46 types of species and 312 individual animals in the separate zoo. The regional states pavilion displays cultural and historical assets and sculptures of regional states. This is the first time that tourists and Ethiopian citizens have been allowed into the palace. This experience offers an opportunity to learn about Ethiopia’s history and to gain a better appreciation of the many cultures that make up the country
