Kanazawa Trips & Tours

Unearth the rich heritage of beautiful Kanazawa, where ancient Japanese traditions thrive.

Often nicknamed the 'Little Kyoto', Kanazawa is a well-preserved cosmos of traditional Japanese culture. One of its crown jewels is the meticulously maintained Kenroku-en, one of the 'Three Great Gardens' of Japan, which blooms with cherry blossoms in spring and becomes a snowy work of art in winter. The city is also renowned for its bustling Omicho Market, the imposing Kanazawa Castle, and the charming tea house district of Higashi Chaya. You'll also discover a flourishing artistic scene, with workshops offering a glimpse into age-old crafts such as gold leaf making, Kutani porcelain and Kaga-yuzen silk dyeing.

What to do in Kanazawa

During the Edo Period, Kanazawa served as the seat of the Maeda Clan, the second most powerful feudal clan after the Tokugawa in terms of rice production and fief size. Accordingly, Kanazawa grew to become a town of great cultural achievements, rivalling Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo). During World War II, Kanazawa was Japan's second largest city (after Kyoto) to escape destruction by air raids. Consequently, parts of the old castle town have survived in good condition. In Kanazawa, you'll explore a city where tradition and modernity coexist. Visit the Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan's most beautiful landscapes. The city is also known for its well-preserved samurai and geisha districts, offering a glimpse into Japan's feudal past. Discover Kanazawa's rich arts and crafts heritage, including gold leaf work and Kaga yuzen silk dyeing. The city's contemporary art scene and fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan add to its unique charm, making it a captivating destination with a blend of cultural and culinary delights.
