Smack bang in the centre of India, Madhya Pradesh is often lost in the shadow of its colourful northern neighbour, Rajasthan. MP can be quite the contradiction: it sees a fraction of the visitor numbers of more popular states and can be a dream to escape the hustle and noise. But it’s also frenzied and fast-paced, colourful and chaotic, maddening and so completely not modern. Be prepared for anything.
